Kashima Shrine enshrines Takemikazuchi-no-Okami, who is revered as the god of martial arts. It is a famous shrine where professional soccer teams come every year to pray for victory, and in recent years it has also attracted attention as a power spot. Along the inner approach to the shrine, there is a "deer park" called "Rokuen" where about 20 deer are kept. In the age of mythology, it is said that Amenokaku-no-Kami, the god of deer, acted as a messenger to deliver the command of Amaterasu-Omikami to the enshrined deity Takemikazuchi-no-Okami, and this is the reason why deer are still cherished as messengers of the gods today.
Ikisu Shrine
Of the three major shrines in eastern Japan, Ikisu Shrine is quieter and more serene than the other two. It enshrines Kunado-no-kami as its main deity, with the three Sumiyoshi gods and Amenotorifune-no-kami as auxiliary deities. A hidden gem at Ikisu Shrine is the two square wells called "Oshioi" located on either side of the large torii gate (the first torii) along the Hitachi-Tone River. Small torii gates are built inside each well, and if you look into the water, you can faintly see two jars. These two jars are called "Ogame" (male jar) and "Megame" (female jar), and it is said that they have been continuously gushing with pure water for over 1000 years. This Shinobu-i well is considered one of Japan's three most sacred springs, along with Akebono-i in Ise (Mie Prefecture) and Naoi in Yamashiro (Kyoto Prefecture).
Katori Shrine
Katori Shrine (Katori City), located in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture, is a famous power spot in the Kanto region. Katori Shrine (Katori City) is the head shrine of approximately 400 Katori shrines nationwide and is one of the three shrines in eastern Japan that were permitted to use the name "Jingu" (Grand Shrine). Admiral Togo Heihachiro is enshrined at Katori Shrine and is worshipped as a god of victory. The bright red gate tower, a symbol of the shrine, is a valuable structure registered as an Important Cultural Property. Built in 1700, the same year as the main shrine, the gate tower is an impressive symbolic building of Katori Shrine with its vivid vermilion color. The gate tower has two levels, with 12 pillars supporting the lower level.
Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, affectionately known as "Narita's Fudo-sama"
Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is located near Narita International Airport, Japan's gateway to the skies. It is the head temple of the Chizan branch of the Shingon sect and was founded in 940 by Abbot Kancho, making it one of the nation's leading sacred sites with a history of over 1,000 years. Affectionately known as "Narita's Fudo-sama," the temple grounds contain five nationally important cultural properties as well as numerous historical halls and pagodas, and it is also known as a place for good fortune and improved luck. The Setsubun Festival, held every year on the day before the beginning of spring, is famous for the participation of sumo wrestlers and entertainers. The temple also has deep ties to Kabuki, and the first Danjuro, who gained popularity by incorporating the aragoto style of Kabuki, exemplified by "Shibaraku" and "Narukami," was not blessed with an heir. It is said that he prayed earnestly for a child at the Yakushido, the main hall of Naritasan at the time, and was granted his long-awaited first son.
