[1] Munakata Taisha Hetsumiya Munakata Taisha Shrine, located in Munakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is a World Heritage Site that enshrines the three goddesses (the Munakata Three Goddesses) who appear in Japanese mythology, and is part of the "Sacred Island of Munakata and Related Sites" World Heritage Sites. This is the collective name for Okitsumiya on Okinoshima Island, Nakatsumiya on Oshima Island, and Hetsumiya on the mainland. It is the head shrine of all Munakata shrines throughout Japan, and is revered as the god of traffic safety and maritime safety.
